The Chief Content Officer of streaming giant Netflix claims the modern trend for easily streaming legal content is impacting on the more hardcore Bittorrent scene, with pirate traffic dropping in countries when Netflix switches on its servers.
According to Netflix?s Ted Sarandos, this is because ??people are mostly honest.? Sarandos went on to tell Stuff that: ?The best way to combat piracy isn?t legislatively or criminally but by giving good options. One of the side effects of growth of content is an expectation to have access to it. You can?t use the internet as a marketing vehicle and then not as a delivery vehicle.?
Meanwhile, those hoping the streaming services will offer an early look at high-res 4K content are going to be a little disappointed. There?s no firm commitment to supporting the emerging ultra-high definition format from Netflix yet, with Sarandos saying that ?If it evolves as a streaming only format it?ll be very interesting? but the media company?s only watching to see how it unfolds right now.
